Hi, I must have just missed you. I think I became addicted to h2g2 about 2 weeks ago, but I can't be sure. Nice to see a new face, even though you've been here a lot longer than I. smiley - smiley

Hello Cloughie!
Thanks for dropping by! I know the "addicted" feeling - it trapped me about a year ago, and I haven't escaped since smiley - winkeye
So can you say a little about yourself? That's right - I'm nosey! smiley - smiley
I've had a look on your homepage - looks like we're in a lot of the same conversations. I'm sure I started writing to you before, but I can't remember where... Your homepage is familiar, though!
Well, thanks for dropping by!

I surely hope not!!! All the people here seem pretty f***ing cool. I can't even understand why there are actually people 'out there' who would devise something that would mess up the web, or any of its 'surfers'. Can you??

The Origin?

For some reason I became obsessed with finding the origin of your h2g2 name today. Am wondering if I've even come close.

Well, let's see, it started when I picked up a copy of CS Lewis's "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" and started to read. I noticed in the section where it describes the room that the Wardrobe is in, it mentions a blue-bottle that is lying dead on the window sill. I immediately thought of you smiley - winkeye. I looked it up, and the definition came up that a bluebottle is a type of fly with an iridescent blue abdomen.

So, is this the origin of your alias, or are you actually a bottle made of blue glass?

You are always going to be a friend, ddombrow, but I think you didn't read my "Who Is Bluebottle" page today, did you? smiley - winkeye

Oh well, never mind. I didn't know they mentioned Bluebottle's in "The Lion, The Witch And the Wardrobe", though...
Talking of C.S. Lewis - I'm still trying to find a copy of "That Hideous Strength" - have you read it?

The Origin?

Blast, another origin theory shot down...

Yeah, "That Hideous Strength" is quite a book. If you've read the first two in the series, it's shockingly different. Be prepared to be wierded out. I think I preferred the series when it still dealt with things in outer space, but this one still stands out as a nice piece of work.

I haven't read the other two yet - I have both of the books, but I was hoping to read all three in a row for the first time. I've found that there is nothing as frustrating as reading the first part of a series, and then wanting to know what happens next, and not being able to find the book.
So, you'd definately recommend it, then?
BTW - I want to write a Guide Article about Charles Wesley - do you know much about him?

The Origin?

I would recommend the whole series, yes. Each book really stands alone as a separate work, too, though they share a common character and basic theme.

Charles Wesley? He the one who wrote the hymn "O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing"?

The Origin?

Yes - and many others, including my favourite hymn "And Can It Be" - which I feel is the most moving hymn ever.
I'm writing an article about him, I've got vague confused notes so far at:

Looks more like extremely detailed confused notes at the moment. Will be interesting to see the end product.

BTW Do you know if either of the two Wesley brothers are at all connected to the "Wesleyan" church. I've seen a few around and wondered...
