Nothing terribly interesting/important
Teuchter Started conversation Apr 16, 2006
I was with my daughter yesterday when she was looking at second-hand cars.
We were both sorely tempted by one which had a registration ending in FEK. Had it not been a more expensive model than she could afford, she'd have bought it for the numberplate alone.
*waits to see if this gets past the profanny-filter

Well - it seems it did
That would have been a bit odd - it one had been able to drive around in a car with FEK on its numberplate, but not type it in a Beeb posting.

I'm having a wee problem with the filter
Somewhere else I used the word bugger, which got through.
Which we thought was odd, but there you go.
Then, as is customary, I spelt work with two asterisks w**k - which I understood the filter would also take out, for obvious reasons (it doesn't like work arounds, which I think is good)
then, I mentioned that the previous name for Threadneedle street is allowed because it has a historical context. But I don't like typing the word because it contains that word for the front bottom which begins with the third letter of the alphabet. Only I put that later, dash, word
and my post was removed. But I'm not sure which of the words (or that last thing) that the filter (or maybe the mods?) objected too.
Strange, eh?

let's see
and apologies in advance if this causes the massed ranks of angry profanity filters to descend on your journal
that's not the intention - it's just a comment.

What a fabulous name - should I change my guide entry title?

I can't claim to have invented that one - it belongs to Viz
But it would make rather a good name for a lexicon of alternative swearie words.

bookmarked that, az, thanks
I guess I might get a mail next week telling me what I did wrong
In the meantime I'll just carry on - i don't generally swear onliine anyway

I don't understand if there is a delay or not. I'm thinking of Ben's censored post over at the Atelier. There was certainly a delay there.
This is what I expected after my experience with content filters at work. The best ones only work about 85% of the time and they block things they shouldn't.

Well, the software cannot see words in context, for one. Also, if you try to post something that includes a new *forbidden word* all you get is that your post isn't acceptable, not telling you what word or expression made it so. Which is pretty stupid.

I didn't often use expletives on Hootoo......... but there's nothing like being told you can't do something to make you want to do it.
And I enjoy the challenge of making up new swearie words - it's silly and it's a wee bit of fun.
Or is that just the 11yr old bit of me making its presence felt?

That's a great list, Az. I'm going to print it and keep it on my desk for ready reference.
The 11 year old coming out? Definitely.

I hazard a guess that you are fans of "Father Ted"
One of the best sit coms to ever grace our TV screens in my opinion

I lived in Beaumont, Texas many years ago. My next door neighbor was a Cajun. Her better educated husband used to put her down in public all the time - corrected her grammar, contradicted her, that sort of thing. He was a most unpleasant person sometimes.
Anyway, one afternoon we were barbecuing in our back yard and he started bragging about his college degree then turned to her and said something like, "Of course you wouldn't know anything about attending college." She replied that her degree was just as good as his. He got red in the face and demanded to know which college she had ever attended. So she told him it was the one named after the late King of Egypt.
"The King of Egypt?" he bellowed!
"That's right," she said quietly. "Farouk U!"
