some good links there! Here's a couple of entries in h2g2 that are worth a look too!
Personally, I come from the 'School of' british local crew - travelling 100's of miles to act as extra pushers and loaders for "big" gigs, to "slightly" experienced assistants to carps, light, sound, video , set , etc., etc..
I've retired from this now and will only work when offered ridicul;us sums of money for doing the same old stuff!
