It seems to me that the ever-changing nature of the English language makes it hard for non-researchers to catch up with current use. The question is: since when do we say "Ukraine" and not "the Ukraine"? Indeed, as of 2006 and even 2005, we say "Ukraine" or even "Crimea" whereas this researcher, back in 2003, constantly refers to the country as "THE Ukraine"
