There is also the Psudo-expert who cunningly pretends to be an expert in a field that is so far removed from the intended audience, that they cannot spot they are being tricked.
These people are also referred to as Blaggers.

And let`s not forget the so called Anti Expert, the perfect mirror opposite of the standard expert. The Anti Expert can be relied upon to completely misunderstand every single aspect of his chosen field (including its name). Strangely enough however, the anti expert can exress himself clearly and concisely with little or no effort. Admittedly, everything he says is wrong, but at least you can understand it. Bringing an Expert and an Anti Expert together results in an extremely violent explosion, not to mention a great deal of name calling.

I think you are confusing Experts with Consultants.
It is possible to be an Expert without charging anything - Not true about consultants tho'.

The natural enemy of any expert (not necessarily excluding consultants) is an officious pratt who does not know anything initially but picks it up by watching over the expert's shoulder. Long before the officious pratt is anywhere near competent, s/he will declare the expert unnecessary and give them the flick. Shortly thereafter the officious pratt will stuff it up worse than it was before, and the expert will be recalled and expected not only to fix it, but to not know what caused the problem (and to not blame the officious pratt).
The above is based on personal experience. It also took the officious pratt 5 months to pay me the $300-odd he owed me.
