I just found out that one of my friend's dad died the other night. It was a massive heart attack. I'm really quite shocked. I didn't know him especially well, but I did know him, and had done for years. He was always very friendly. Our parents used to take it in turns to drop us off and pick us up from Brownies and Guides when we were kids... I can't quite believe it. I can't imagine how my friend feels - I'm going to phone her tomorrow. The funeral's today - I think it's a Jewish thing, the funeral has to be very soon after the event. This does mean, though, that I can't go. Still, as shocked as I am, it's immeasurably worse for the family.

I know how you feel.
Two weeks ago I found out that one of my friends from university had died. And this I had to read in the alumni magazine.
It turns out he killed himself.
It's weird when someone dies, who is the same age and you've known pretty closely.
I'm sorry for your loss.

Thanks. It's weird as it is, I can't imagine how it would be if it was a friend my own age.
