Monsy and I just replaced our old 64 MB/RAM COMPAQ Presario/14" monitor with an HP Pavilion mx/70....with 562(?, thereabouts) MB/RAM with built-in CD burner and 17" monitor.
My 17 year old stepdaughter brought a friend home with her tonight. He complimented our new 'puter.
Her first comment was that a friend of hers(also 17) told her that buying this 'puter would be the biggest mistake we've made.
I asked her if she'd prefer I unplug this one and put the old "64" back in service.....funny...she didn't aswer that question!
Ah, youth. Ask them the questions while they still know it all!LOL
Here at H2G2 I have discovered, in my ramblings, that most political debates on this site are carried on by very young researchers.9close to my stepdaughters' age) It does not surprise me that they have no concept of how the world really works, nor can they carry out a debate without sinking to personal attacks.
Give them time. They will either learn, or be eliminated by those with better verbal skills. Either way, "the cream will rise to the top".
This can only be a good thing.

'ello Wowbagger!
I'd begun to think no one ever came here.....nice to see you old friend!
Sorry I don't get on here more often, but I have a stepson who is a "'puter Geek" and a stepdaughter who is in love with Kazaa, so my time on the net is rather limited.(they are both bigger than I am!!!)

Kazaa is a website where you can download music and video. Right down to recent movies, complete television series and movies...old and new.
Stepdaughter tends to spend a rather large amount of time there.
Recently, all I've heard when shes' online is Eminim(sp.?) and every episode of Dawsons' Creek.....in sequence!LOL
Stepson is heavy into the gaming sites. Between the two of them, they can tie up the 'puter for excessively long periods of time!
Oh well...I suppose it could be worse!

Can't you give them the old computer and lock them out of yours ?
When they complain you might ask them who is actually paying for the 'puters and for the online-subscription... Because I know from experience that once people are hooked on Kazaa/Napster, they will not let go of your computer voluntarily... You might want to buy a cricketbat or something.....
Anyway, just popped in to say hi. So Hi NM, hi Wowbagger...
TM.

'ello, TM!!!
Nice to hear from you!!
Old 'puter?....nahhh...stepdaughter wore that one out. It could only take so many cache clearings and restarts.....trouble is, I'm beginning to worry about this one!
The only step above is that new Mac, and I ain't got the funds!!!LOL

I need Money for an Apple Mac (IMAC)? Yeah quite expensive compared to an old PII...
You could tell them that you will log their pc-hours and deduct the cost from their pocketmoney ? Be sure to have your cricketbat with you when you tell them...

FairlyStrange Posted Jun 30, 2003
The "pocketmoney" idea would be great, except.....
This 'puter is online 24/7 through a cable modem(ethernet). I'd like to try that tack, but they are both too 'puterwise to fall for it...besides, there are worse things they could be doing, I suppose!
