This my entry for December's Create challenge. I only thought of writing this yesterday, so it has been put together rather quickly. If there's anything I've left out, please let me know.

Oo - that's a fun idea. Off the top of my head the only 'Living on Jupiter' works of fiction I can think of you've not mentioned are Asimov's 'Lucky Starr' novel 'The Moons of Jupiter'.

The independent film 'The American Astronaut' involves a trip to Jupiter. Jupiter is portrayed as being an exclusively-male, dark, underground mining colony where there are no women at all. The most famous celebrity on Jupiter is called 'The Boy Who Actually Saw a Woman's Breast' and he spends his time giving motivational speeches to the miners describing what it looked like. Not much of Jupiter is seen other than the theatre area in which he gives his speech to the assembled workers (and they are all slaughtered soon after anyway).

This is not intended to be a complete list of every reference in fiction to life on Jupiter. h2g2 is not the place for such an entry, in my opinion.

This is supposed to be an exploration of the issues of living on or around Jupiter, backed up by some works of fiction which explain the concepts.

I did think of Lucky Starr, but I think I was only 13 when I read them, so I don't recall the one about the Moons of Jupiter, although I can read the plot summary on Wikipedia. I may not have read that one.

I like this, particularly the way you intersperse Jupiter facts with Jupiter fictions. Not having read any 'proper' Space Fiction for years, I have nothing to add.

This is good. I agree with Mags that the fact and fiction fit well together.

This is super.

I immediately thought of the 2013 film 'The Europa Report', which impressed me. As you said, you don't need to be exhaustive. This is a good imagination-tickler.

I also remembered a lecture I attended back in the 1970s in Toronto, where a scientist imagined what beings from different planets might look like. His Jupiter dwellers were heavy and squat, very low to the ground, as I recall.

I wonder if our residual Neanderthal genes might help us to adapt? Just a stray thought.

Yes, a personal concluding paragraph would be good.

I've added a section at the end "So Why Go to Jupiter?" which summarises the reasons for going and also serves as a personal closing statement.
