Okay, what have got going on between your ears? Is it a current tune, or are you reminiscing? Is it upbeat, or low and slow? Does it have lyrics, or are you simply enamored of the instrumental composition? Enquiring minds want to know...
As if it's any real surprise, I'm listening to Kate Bush's latest big production, the two-album set of Aerial, using my laptop's MediaPlayer and a set of earbuds (under my telephone headset). My favorite tracks are:
How to be Invisible
Prelude
Sunset
Somewhere In-Between
Nocturn
So... What are YOU listening to?

I am currently listening to some funk at a coffee shop. That and listening to someone's computer making some hideous noises.

Marv, I used to have a Commodore system with a 1541 disk drive (5-1/4" floppy). When it would boot up the software in the drive, thunking and clunking and going "brrrattt-bRRRaTTT", it honestly sounded like it was eating the diskette.
What's the other guy's computer sounding like?
BTW, I'm on "The Painter's Link" from Aerial.

It was an obvious eminent fan failure. That notebook was not long for this world.
To get back on topic. iTunes randomly selected "Alles ist Schoen" from The Orb when I fired it up tonight.
The next track that I selected was "Samson" by Regina Spektor.

Currently grooving to some ambient tracks found at: http://www.lotuspike.com/listen.php
You can listen and download all the tunes shown, for free. It's their way of putting the hook in, and they've snagged me. Next paycheck, I'm purchasing one or two of their compilations.

Right now I'm letting the Latin tempos of Daveed wash over me as I visit HooToo. Guitar work on the album "Healing Garden" is something I hope to emulate, in time. My wife was looking for music suited for the Pilates class she'll be teaching at the YMCA in town, and we found this wonderful collection of songs on http://www.CDBaby.com. They have a wide variety of artists and their prices are very reasonable for quality productions of talented musicians. This particular album runs the course of several styles, though romantic Latin is the over-arching theme. It's paced well for a Pilates regimen, even with the slightly faster songs. For me, it's a long string of 'ear candy'; something I can have in the background while I work, or can concentrate on for the full flavor of each composition.

I really needed a boost, after a sleepless night and a rough day at w*rk, so I'm jacked in to Bryan Duncan's contemporary Christian album, "Mercy". Immensely upbeat, and the lyrics 'hit the nail on the head' (if you'll pardon the allusion to crucifixion) in light of capturing the challenges to a believer's walk in this world. Still manages to keep it rockin' and lively, because each song speaks to the hope and the heavenly power at our disposal.

The jazz fusion of Steely Dan has always been a favorite of mine. Last year I picked up their compilation album, "ShowBiz Kids". It definitely has all their greatest stuff. It's a two-CD set burgeoning with 2 hours and 34 minutes of music. I find myself revisiting some of my young adult life every time I listen to it.

Perchance to Dream -- by Nightnoise from the album "Something of Time"
Instrumental - Jazz Fusion - New Age (when 'New Age' was young)
This whole CD evokes images found shifting through the shadows of our lesser seen nighttime existence. It portrays a complex set of soundscapes, many of them echoing from the chasms of our subconscious. It ranges from sweetly lyrical in a way to carry you off to sleep, to nearly disturbing with dark overtones. As a whole, it flows slowly and softly, carrying your thoughts along in waves, buoying you up, taking you under, slipping you along until where you began is a distant memory and where you will be is as yet undetermined. Only the here-and-now counts for the environment in which you are immersed.
