At reading festival on one of the nights, the moon was very large, and yellow. What's the name for this, because I need to find a picture of it.

Harvest moon probably, if it was red it was a lunar eclipse, or just a plain full moon I know it was at the weekend because it put paid to seeing the Persiads meteor shower.

Waning
Full moon
Gibious phase
cresent

I THOUGHT it was harvest moon. The word Hunter's moon also came to mind though.

But when I looked in google many of the moons titled harvest moon weren't yellow.

And it's wasn't a full moon, it was crescent.

Maybe it was an ultra clear night so it looked big and yellow

The full moon was on Wednesday night, waxing is between the full moon and the new moon.... The New moon is not due until September 10th which is the quite correctly described Harvest Moon

it was all cloudy.

The moon was at least twice it's normal size, it was a crescent and it was distinctly yellow.

Also i thought it may have been distorted by smoke or something though.

Have a look at some of the Wiccan websites, our Postmaster and his wife are into that kind of thing and they have cards with the phases of the moon on them I know one is called the Crone
