Just so I have something to write here really,
Spent all week running acoustic simulations through a helmholtz resonator. Told you my life was boring.
Why me? Why did I decide that Switzerland would be a good place to spend a year?

hello
my life is even more boring. i am in the dullest of dull jobs, so much so that I have been spending the afternoon chasing conversation threads.
Enjoy studying while it lasts, it's better than working - people kept telling me that and I never believed them. Sadly they were right. At least Friday is payday....
back to the threads once again....Good luck with the research.

thank you very much for the support.
it seems to be working - I am now trusted to do things (almost) on my little ownsome, but most of the time I can't summon up the enthusiasm for it!
The thought of having to real job at the end of university is starting to worry me a bit. And surely noone is daft enough to take me for a Phd. Oh well.
Cheers for dropping by

Just stay in education forever and ever, if you can cope with doing research for the next 40 years or teaching other people what you know whether they like it or not! I would be incapable of either, which is why I got out of it in the summer.
Mind you, I'm not really planning on staying in the real world for any longer than it takes me to save up for a year in Australia. It strikes me that working would be much more pleasant in a bar in Sydney....even if the money stinks.
At least when you've finished with your acoustic-type stuff you will be Dr. That will sound great, even if you are in a job that doesn't really require it.

Hmm Australia. Sounds like a good idea. I have a friend who went out for a gap year to teach near Sydney three years ago, and is, or was when I left the UK, still out there having a fantastic time.
As to sticking in academia forever, well its a good idea in theory. It just seems like my fourteen year old's abitions to change the world are flying out of the window the older and more cynical I get.
Hope today brings you a little closer to Sydney (recent cricket results notwithstanding)
Jim
