Now here's something weird:
Many years ago I wrote three songs. I took them to a one-man studio which I hired for two hours, and recorded them, playing a £5 guitar. Many many years ago.
About five years ago a young friend transferred my little tape to CD. I was delighted and loaded my songs onto my PC.
Yesterday I clicked on one, as though to play it. I thought I might upload them to my web page.
RealPlayer told me I needed to go online and "acquire a licence to play this track". I went online but couldn't find the licences.
Sigh.

That sounds like a partially implemented policy hastily and clumsily cobbled together to avoid contravening the new copy right legislation.
Wow. A £5 guitar. That wouldn't buy you an ice-cream in some establishments today

Silence dear Recumbent, Total, deafening silence!!
Is there any reason why you should not get a licence in order to upload them? surely that would mean that you would automatically have the copyright? I think that it is most exciting - it might also mean that we could send messages to one another - in a cooing voice of course!!
sincerely

Should I try again? When I went online there was no obvious direction to where the licence might be available . . . and it does seem strange that someone else should have the gall to offer me a licence for what I recorded myself. Humph.

Can't you ask them what the licence is for? If it is to protect others from plagiarising your compositions it surely bould be worth it.

Now! I've done some asking and tweaking and uploading and . . . I think they're there. Enjoy. Report back.
