A Conversation for I'm New - What Do I Do Now?

Babylon (the accursed, encrusted on my PC)

I really need help here. (Maybe some of you have been afflicted with this gangrenous pest yourselves)

There is a translation programme called Babylon which popped up on my screen just as I was working on a French text.. It offered FREE translation service. Like a fool I typed in a phrase and got the translation.
When I went online again (my server is Firefox) this Babylon had taken a tool bar at the top of my screen offering films, Chinese lessons, Green card permits (how to get one ) etc>.

So I went to Cofiguration, opened up 'Add and Suppress' found it there bold as brass and, I thought, wiped it off.

BUT IT WAS STILL THERE (still is).

Online I found a 'super uninstaller' that guarantees to get rid of this (and others) for a FEE of $39!

My first thought was : it's a scam. This dry-rot gets into your PC and you have to pay to get rid of it (and they split the proceeds)

I still don't know if that's the case but it's still there though it doesn't show up on the list of programmes installed and seems to be entwined with Google. (The Google start-page format is changed)

It's taking up space on my harddisk and slowing all my operations.

Does anybody know how to get rid of it? Better still know how to start a CLASS ACTION TO SUE THE BASTARDS?

Any other victims out there? Let's co-operate to such an extent that this 'Babylon' will become such an IT byword for over-the-top CHUTZPAH that, with millions informed, no idiot will ever touch it again.

(You might have guessed I'm a little pissed off)

Really though, it's poisoning my web-life.

With many thanks for any suggestions, lollyduke (member name)

Stealth "Jack" Azathoth

IIRC, back when I was on a PC there was a free version of MacAfee Un-installer and that always did the job for me.
I reckon the full version is still cheaper than the price you name. Also I'm sure someone would be willing to "SHARE" a copy with you.

Bro Stealth Azathoth.
Got your message. Blessed art thou by the Better Angels of Cyberspace.
I'm on to it rightaway.
But given my capacity for blunder -it was a blunder that got me into this - I may be back in contact shortly
