Hi,
I have recently been diagnosed with a cerebral aneurysm and about to have an embolisation purely as a preventative measure as I have a strong family history of brain haemorrages.
I would love to speak to anyone who has had this treatment about how they feel, any side effects, advice, etc.

HI, not quite the same but I had a caroted cavenous fistula; which basically bled into the brain area and gave me a brain haemoridge, back in err 1994 I think it was... Not sure what advice to give, I was pretty busy at the time being very ill
But at least it sounds like yours although its differnt is going to be treated before it gets or can get to the stage where that mgiht happen; prevention is always better than dealing with the result of it actually happening Goodluck with it all, and

Hi joolyjoo, and welcome to h2g2!
I know absolutely nothing about cerebral aneurysms, and I see that you've already recieved a reply *~waves~ to 2legs* but you might get even more replies if you start a new conversation over at <./>Askh2g2</.> which is frequented by a lot of researchers.

Hi,
Thanx for the positive response. I think the condition you suffered from sounds very similar and exactly what I am trying to avoid for the sake of my little girl. I hope you have made a full recovery and enjoy good health. I will let you know how I get on.
Were coils used in your operation? I understand this procedure has only been carried out in the last 15 years or so.

NO I didn't have coils; mine wasn't spotted until the blood vessel had effectively burst, so I had a haemoridge; they used silicon tubing or baloons as far as I know, to seal off the endso f the blood vessel where it had broken As I say mine eneed up being urgent emergency surgery as it just 'went' a pity the doctors hadn't noticed it earlier on, as the weakness in the blood vessel was caused by the road traffic accident I'd had a few months before hand (as far as they know),
So having it done before it gets to a critical stage is just a million times better, can all be planned and scans and whatever needs doing done before hand in plenty of time to plan out the opperation/procedure...
