Hello Squibs,

Welcome to h2g2 smiley - smiley

I would advise that you put your question into <./>Askh2g2</.> where there must be lots of researchers dependent on insulin smiley - ok

Also, I suspect if you search the wider BBC using the device in the very top right hard corner, BBC Health etc may have some useful advice.

Hello squibs49, can I call you squibs for short?
Starting on insulin is daunting isn't it. I can remember it well, it might be six years ago but sometimes it seems like yesterday...

What insulin have you been started on? Also are you a type 1 or type 2 diabetic?

The best advice I can give right now is to keep records of your blood glucose levels, the insulin you take and if you can, what you eat and keep in close contact with your care team if you can.

This might be useful:

But if you type in "diabetes" into the h2g2 Search function, there are quite a lot of Entries on this, though some are pretty out of date: maybe once you settle in here, you might like to consider writing a new Guide Entry or starting a society for others who are also insulin dependent?

Anyway, Welcome to hootoo! I'd better not offer you some smiley - cake until you've checked it's OK right now! So here's a smiley - strawberry; i bet that will be OK (and much better for you!smiley - winkeye

I'm a type 2 diabetic who started insulin about nine months ago. The most important thing is to stick to a timetable (seeing your posting reminded me that I'm nearly asn hour late).I'm hopeless at that and keep getting blood glucose levels that are too high or too low. However, I have found a nice gym instructor at my diabetes specialist who reckons he could get me off the insulin if I take regular exercise. Might be worth you finding out about that as well.
Phil is about the most useful and helpful person you'll find on this site. Add him to your list of friends. I'm sure he won't mind. And see you around smiley - starsmiley - star
