We just saw on the TV news (a few minutes ago) that it is under threat... !

Apparently it is dying, and there is debate about whether there should be heroic measures used to save it.

At least they are still debating
They said it was scrapped twice but are still debating it.

Such a wealth of new information has come from it.
It has been well worth the money and it still functions!
Silly to talk of space elevators and not be concerned with the money for it when this is working and contributing.

Some of it depends on the health of the shuttle.
The Hubble needs maintenance that could see it through another decade if only they can secure 2 shuttles for flights. At least that is the last explanation I read.

Abbi, I'll tranfer that link onto the other thread for Wayne, I think its the fuel cells that need the maintainace, but not fully sure?

There was a giant fireball off the coast of Main and New York.
It was seen for quite a distance by many people.
I was hoping to run across a link or picture of it by now and post it to Waynes thread.

As usual a wonderful link. Sadly I really know very little about the various constellations. I really thought that Hubble had "died" aeons ago. and yet the pcitures she (is she a she?) is sending back are quite extraordinary.

latest on teletext beeb sci-fact pages, the powers that be for NASA money are still unsure as to provide a lifeline for Hubble or not, its still swings and roundabouts

Adelaide, i'm not sure, but I think that Hubble, equipment wise is ok for years, but its the fuel needed to keep it in position and it also is used to generate a small amount of heat to keep the movements free, from freezing up
