I like this "older guy" columnist.
The Republicans will keep guns-gays-abortions in the news as he said. Whether or not there is legislation on the table the tactic is best for getting traditional conservative votes.
I think a great many people vote only on this triad of ultra conservative issues. They never have to feel responsible for all the other issuses or make a voting decision because this priority triad exists for one one party. I could just about add support for the death penalty. Unfortunately it crosses party lines more than others
