Another million dollar study on hight protein diets.
They are questioning whether high protein inhibits the attachment of an egg to the wall.
Decades ago they knew the importance of carbohydrates for the egg to achieve attachment. That is one reason why soda crackers were commonly in close proximity to preganant women. They helped with nausea too.
So much money is wasted repeating studies.
Makes me a bit looney to keep seeing studies on how to lose weight. Who needs another study?

While I am at it has anybody noticed how statins are touted as good for just about everything?
They even say although they do lower cholesteral they have not been proven to reduce strokes. They are said to be good for all nuero problems, diabetics, all inflamatory diseases, all heart and stroke risks et. That about covers everybody by the time you are 60.
They are expensive and there are serious muscle side effects that some suffer. They cut down cholesteral but there is no proof they inhibit actual severe life ending or changing events.

abbi,
I had no idea carbs were important for the egg to achieve attachment. But it's not really surprising as it is a natural part of our diet. I find the insanity of the low carb craze mind boggling. Low carb pop, McDonald's, milk, vitamins...?
I'm also skeptical of all these studies. I think an important thing to look at is who is sponsoring the study.

I just remember the Dr.s preaching that to women who were dieting while pregnant. Many would not want to eat carbs. I assume it would go for women on this newer diet too. Plus carbs give you quick energy which you desperately need then.

The thing that annoys me about the carb debate is that no-one appears to differentiate between whole carbohydrates and refined ones. eg brown rice vs white.
I think the health problems associated with carbs are to do with their refinement (and use in or alongside non-foods like Madonalds or coke) rather than there being anything wrong with carbohydrates inherently.
I also think traditional diets have alot to say about eating healthily and well.
Someone was going on about low carb potatoes the other day The point of potatoes is that they are high in carbs and therefore yummy

*screams*
A LOW CARB POTATO IS NOT A POTATO. HOW CAN THEY CALL THAT A POTATO? THAT'S WHAT A POTATO IS! IT IS A CARBOHYDRATE! IF YOU TAKE CARBOHYDRATES OUT OF POTATOES YOU NO LONGER HAVE POTATOES! YOU HAVE AIR!
Ok. Sorry about that.

Good point Kea there is a difference in the quality and fuel.
Oh yes the statins are said to be good for cancer too or preventing them they say..... They have nor proved any of this
Speculation and sales.
A good diet , low stress, satisfaction and proper rest really cannot be beat. Oh yes preventative health care too
There - that fixes about every thing you can fix.

>>A good diet , low stress, satisfaction and proper rest really cannot be beat. Oh yes preventative health care too<<
I wonder how many people these days get all those in the doses they need?
Don't worry HB I thought it entirely stupid too. So stupid in fact that I didn't actually listen to what they were saying once the idea of low carb potato was mentioned.

*googles "low carb potato"*
*rant continues*
The CNN story says that it is a baseball sized potato developed in EUROPE of all places and now grown in Florida. Why don't we just eat baseballs. They're probably low in carbs.

Why has nobody mentioned Twin Webbers? They are the bees Knees and give plenty of power over the whole range.

hi all.i have to admit that i'm ignorant about carbs, and protein, and vitamins, and all such,BUT,i can tell you about low fat, saturated fat, polyunsaturates etc!!!!erm.Oh,and i'm curious about statins abbi??billy has been on simvastatin since his heart attack, almost si six years ago now,and i've just read that they're going to be sold as over the counter drugs.i would have thought something as potentially dangerous,if not taken correctly, would have been on prescription only..

Hopefully being over the counter means they are safer when used as directed. Anything can be dangerous and I did not mean to alarm about this particular one. It is a risk for limited numbers and you would know fairly soon I believe, it is not a silent symptom.
My brother is on them. They brought down his levels amazingly fast.
The extent to what they claim they are good, I find hard to beleieve. Claims of *hopes maybe are premature. It is also interesting while it's effective in lowering cholesteral they are not sure exactly what that means as far as actual risks and prevention. Not as sure as they used to be anyway.
It would be wonderful if it does all they think it may. It reminds me of other wide reaching hopeful cures and preventions though. Even vitamins and herbs et.
*still mad about the "estrogen is good for most all women" attitude*

Hi Abbi, Poor old MK2 got more bad news today from the doctor, It seems she has a vey high cholestral, and a low blood pressure
So we went shopping to buy all the right foods for her! I also found a great Menue for that on Google
Looks like Im going to have to go on the same diet as well, just to encourage her
Smudger,

Good for you Smudger going on the diet with her
It will of course be good for your health too.
It is hard for many to switch, good luck with the transition.
