This place really livens up when you come back abbi!
It *is* nice to see students standing up for what really is important to them, and in a sensible, non violent way, without the overt search for confrontation that mars many protests. Many students seem, at least in the UK, to protest for protests sake, without a full and necessary understanding of the issue involved. This of course undermines the protest's effectiveness, as when confronted, they have no relevant argument to back up their point, and therefore resort to more confrontation, and not in it's positive sense. This does not take away from the many students who do have a point to make, and make it well, but rather from those who protest for it's own sake, and have little understanding of the protests cause.
This phenomena is not solely reserved for the young, or students. There are many adults who follow the route of ill-timed and misplaced protest too. But I am pleased to see that some of the worlds students are being taught well, and understand the cause of their protest, and how to fight their cause, and are fighting for what is important.

Thanks TM
I agree!
I have misplaced a link to another protest that I thought was equally relevant and productive. I will keep looking for it because people do need new ideas and ways. The purse strings control too much of what is exposed.
The last time Bush came through here they actually went by the protesters (against his policies). They kept moving as his plan for travel did. One group placed themselves too late for changing the route and the party sent pro-Bush people waving small flags on each end. It appeared as tho they were all pro-B if you did not read the posters. They travelled quickly past them of course.

spent all day tearing up chunks of newsprint to mount photos of 1980's protests on. Twenty years on, depressingly, it's not difficult to find relevant headlines.

That would be a great artistic task to draw comparisons and show the sames mistakes being repeated.
This is not the link I wanted but it is a form of protest. http://www.thedenverchannel.com/family/3403144/detail.html

Very good news; I agree with what tone says about protests for the sake of protests. It's nice to see that this protest is well-organised and seems to be fully justified. Also, it'd very unlikely that some hothead is going to suggest trashing the local police station.

Or a bulldozer like the man in Colorado did!
Tonsils Revenge has a link on that incident last week
Somebody else did that a few years ago in another small town in Colorado.

This is not about a protest but in appreciation for one of those public service messages about teens and drugs.
I thought this was a good creative idea for dealing with it.
The father sees his boy come home and thinks he has been partaking of something from the condition he is in....
He writes on his sons forehead when he passes out;
"We need to talk-Dad"
The kid sees it on his forehead in the mirror first thing in the AM
Good one.
