Since 1849, California has always been a state in a hurry.

But it's slowed down a bit with the dotcom bubble bursting and the fact that it has more regulatory bodies than the Fed itself.
The Sacramento government was bloated with mandates and projects that were begun decades ago that still require funding regardless of the actual budget.

I'm not sure of the GNP of California, but as I said, until recently, it had more millionaires than any other state and the largest state budget, which means now the largest state deficit.

As early as the 1920s there was more money floating around California than in some countries.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised if it was 5th in the world. Wonder where Switzerland ranks?
