The Prayer of the Bonfire.

A penny loaf to feed the Pope,
A farthing o'cheese to choke him,
A pint of beer to rinse it down,
A faggot of sticks to burn him!
Burn him in tub of tar,
Burn him like a blazing star,
Burn his body from his head,
Then we'll say old Pope is dead!

what does "Faggot" mean in that context then?

Now some may be wondering why someone that doesn't believe in the existance of a supreme being is to be found saying such prayers... Well it's because I'm a monarchist for one and second because I believe that the freedom to celebrate bonfire night is an important one and belive in freedom from the yoke of catholicism... etc etc...
