A Conversation for Ian Dury and the Blockheads' 'Reasons to Be Cheerful'

The actual lyrics to RTBCIII are "dominecker camels"
I see three reasons for this. In an advert that appeared in the NME at the time of release, these were the words that ere printed.
It has to be a reference to the animal "camel" other wise the next line ("All Other Mamals") doesn't fit.
Dominecker is an actual word. It used to describe something that is balck and white see this "In a posting a possible explanation for 'dominecker' (dominicker) – that, in respect of chooks, it refers to being like a Domincan in colour (reference to the priests' black and white habit)" from http://www.bluegrassmessengers.com/master/jordan8.html about another song entirely.
So I assume that Ian was talking about black and white camels.

Where were you when we were writing this. We had all sorts of debates over that one. It was one of the reasons I took so long completing this article.

Where was I - well I only found out about this entry today. I just love this song. I had to travel all the way to England to get a copy of the 12" version from the Stiff shop. And I joined h2g2 just to read your entry.
The words have always interested me, that is why I kept a copy of the advert from the NME.
If you like I can get a upload a copy or email you one.
Perhaps there is a way to get it for people to view when they visit your wonderful explanation.

No its ok I believe you. I'll get unto the editors to re-instate Dominecker into the line. There are so many websites out there with variations on the lyrics.
