I had to go to docs to pick up insurance certificates. getting out is so hard for me so i walked up to the main road to get a taxi there. Its a big road and i was starting to get a bit wound up but was pleased that i had finally done it (been putting it off for a week).

I was busy looking fo a taxi and none were empty. so i started to walk up a bit as standing still makes me feel worse when i am out. I noticed a guy a bit ahead of me and thought he looked a bit dodgy. Mean while i am looking both ways for taxis and walking quite fast due to my stress levels. Then i noticed the guy slow down so i was ahead of him. i stopped to look for cabs but kept an eye on the bloke out of the corner of my eye and saw him look at me.

I walked a bit further and went to where the road splits forming a crescent where there are houses but the main road carries on. Bit like a D shape. In the centre of the D is grass and some trees.

He started to walk round the curve so i carried on the main road and hurried up. then he double backed and followed me again. i stopped again to look for a cab and he overtook me and then stopped maybe 10 feet in front of me facing the grassy bit pretending to do something but i saw him look back at me. By this time i knew. there were other people around but not many 3 or 4 walking in the opposite direction - plenty in cars speeding at 50mph. I stayed where i was for what seemed like 5 minutes but was probably less looking around all the time for cabs but keeping an eye on him.

Then a cab came and stopped to pick me up and the guy started to walk on again.

I got my stuff from the docs and the taxi waited and took me home and i think that i was running on adrenaline as its only now, nearly 2 hours later that its hit me and i feel sick and really unsettled. I was soaked with sweat from it when i got home.

I dont know if i should phone the police or not - cos what can they do? make a report on a vague description from a paranoid anxiety ridden person? He may have been caught for a second on the cctv at the traffic lights but he didnt do anything. What if someone else is robbed and attacked?

I think the reality of it has just hit me cos now i am in a right state. Brings up all sorts of bad feelings. Thing i am gonna have to take a sleeping pill. i feel like a drink but i might end up hurting myself unless i sedate myself through the next 2 or 3 hours.

I've been followed before - the police won't do anything. Trust me, its not worth telling them unfortuantely - sometimes even getting mugged just gets a "oh, right" from them.

All you can do is be thankful you were fine smiley - smiley

Thanks everybody. I think i am going through the victim phase at the moment smiley - cry I just spoke to a friend and told her what happened and going over it again as has upset me. Trying to tell myself it was my imagination etc but when you say it to someone else it makes you realise it is real. especially the amount of times the guy stopped to make me be ahead of him and me stopping to make sure i wasnt. it was real and i had a narrow escape. he could have had a knife or anything. And being so close to the park/green too, he could have done anything to me.

Anyway - i took a valium and 1 and a half sleeping pills and slept away the panic for 2 hours, so now i am just left with anger, victim complex and upset - which i am going to drink away. (hurray - a good excuse for getting smiley - drunk)

Dr EV - it was London Road, at the city end - I mean you would think you are safe there. Seems nowhere is safe.

Thanks everybody for your support

well am glad you think it is amusing cos i have spent the last 24 hours or so in a total freaked out state going from anger to feeling vulnerable. Have you any idea how it feels to feel so threatened?

The only thing anyone has is their self and when people violate that then another threat of it is not something to be joked about.

I can take a joke but this is not funny so stay out of my journal unless you have something constructive that may help the hell i am going through after this threat to my personal safety.

Don't worry about them hun they're both idiots... (even though one of them's my mate in RL)

Really soz to read about your trauma hun... I used to suffer from Agorophobia and it was pretty bad... couldn't go to the shop without worrying etc... but that was a while back... I've beaten it off now... and realised that not everyone's a nasty person in this world... there are good people left... you just have to find the right one...

The guy who you encountered was probably just lonely... at least nothing happened to you that cold of injured you physically... you're safe aren't you... at least you're safe in the knowledge hat nothing did happen... don't worry about people if they come up to you on the streets... I mean... it was in broad daylight wasn't it... and like I said... I expect the man was just curious... perhaps he wanted to talk to you but was too nervous...

Not everyone's "creepy" just because they look/act creepy...

Don't worry hun... you'll be fine... okay...

I hope this helped (but I doubt it will)

I know how it feels to have your personal safety threatened and it is so much worse when it happens in a place that you would normally consider to be safe. I can imagine how much harder this has made it for you to feel safe in leaving the house. The feelings of fear and vulnerability will lessen in time and until they do you have the support of many people who care about you, and I include myself among them. I think you have my e-mail, send me a message and I'll gladly give you my phone number as well.

Some people don't have the experience or empathy to understand what you are feeling and I'm angry on your behalf that they think that it's acceptable to make jokes when you are so clearly distressed.
