Well, it happens every year, and this one is no exception. Normally around exam times, when I'm supposed to be studying hard, I get hit by a terrible feeling that whatever I'm doing, it's the wrong thing. Perhaps it is. There's only one problem - if what I'm doing at the moment is the wrong thing, what's the right thing? I still have no answer to that.
Of course, without an answer, all I can do I plug away at what I've got - Latin and English Language. Two subjects for which I receive endless criticism from family and friends (but mainly family). I have now come to the conclusion that pretty much the only reason I am still studying the subjects I am studying is out of a sheer bloody-minded determination to show my detractors that I *can* succeed in them, and that I *will* get a job other than teacher at the end of it.
I just hope I actually can acheive those aims.
So, for anyone else out there studying ridiculous subjects and feeling put-upon and depressed about it: come on! Keep it up! We'll show 'em!

I believe I have showed everyone within a 20 metre radius quite adequately with my cries of 'AAaaaaaaaaaargh-stop thinking the word 'Resit''

I think this Latin exam is definitely going to call for a re-sit, but maybe by then I'll actually have learned what I'm supposed to know now...
And Stacy, may I ask - what's a McWOW? :-S

Patin.
We were reviewing the human memory model and I only saw part of it, and said it outloud. It sounded like HUMAN McWOW, so it's kind of stuck. Don't ask me, how, but HUMAN McWOW.

Keep at it. I am doing an honours year in Microbiology and I'm losing my motivation, but just reading what you have said is a bit of a spur. However, I am curious as to what type of job you might expect to end up in. Please let me know. Keep plugging away, and the very best of luck.

Hi there. I genuinely have no idea whatsoever what I'm going to do with a degree in English Language and Latin, assuming I get one. There's a nice passage in a Christopher Brookmyre book where a charcater reminisces about his uni days when he and his friends joked around about becoming teachers because they'd never find another job. I suspect that may be as horribly prophetic for me as it was for him.
My mum's highest hope is that I become a civil servant. I don't really know what one of them is, but the job title doesn't make it sound inspiring.
Good luck with your Microbiology, anyway
