Hiya! And I thought I was alone too!

I used to have a Saab too, till I realised the insurance and fuel was bankrupting me (I haven't hit 25 yet and live in an iffy area with a 50 mile a day round trip to work, so got hit well and truly in the pocket for it!). I had a P-reg 900, only a plain 2.0 though.

Out of interest, what Volvo was it and how did you break it? And what Landy?

Cheers for dropping by and hopefully talk to you soon :o)

I think we need a Land Rover and/or V8 smiley - but that's just me!

I've just turned 25 late last year, but my postcode is semi-rural so the insurance isn't too bad (well, £600 smiley - yikes ) Fuel isn't much worse than my Volvo was. Mind you, Saab reckon that the turbo helps to improve fuel economy, but I think that's just an excuse! smiley - winkeye The old 900 was a thirsty sod though.
My Volvo was a 440Xi, and it was rapidly turning into a shed (150k on the clock...)but what finished it off was turning into a car park, car coming the other way couldn't wait so ended up cutting the corner too tight to avoid him. Unfortunately didn't see the concrete bollard on the other side....smiley - doh
Never mind eh? Solved the problem of what to do with the damn thing!
As for the Landy, afraid it's not doing much at the minute. Sitting round at my house making like a shed. It's a 90 Tdi, but on a F plate (1988), has a later engine out of a Disco, 1994 back axle with disc brakes and a Disco transfer box. BMW blue/purple with alloys and a shiny bull bar! Pose machine! smiley - ok
Talk to you soon, must go & cook my tea!

If I was nice to my Saab I could just about manage 30mpg, but I don't think you really need an excuse for a turbo ;o) The insurance (with 1 years NCB) was going to be £1800 for where I live! Hence the Arosa, which is still £800 but does 60mpg. I just tell myself the money saved is going into my car fund!

Ouch about the Volvo, but at least it solved itself. That kind of thing keeps happening to me with the Arosa, but I'm rapidly turning kamikaze enough to force them to move (or at least it's small enough to fit through the gap!)

The 90 sounds interesting, is it broken at the moment then?

Yeah, it's got a multitude of problems from knackered electrics (the previous owner thought that a bag of bendy spanners, scotch-locks and gaffer tape made him a mechanic/auto electrician...smiley - yikes) four duff tyres, dodgy shocks, terminal corrosion, iffy ball joint/suspension bushes, loads of transmission slap, (probably the output shaft), something mysterious wrong with the turbo and spontaneous diesel leaks. I think that just about covers it! I'm saving up to put it right, might shoehorn a V8 (or a GMC diesel V8) into it while I'm shelling out! Might even turn it into a pukka off-road toy, roll bars etc. Just need the cash now!

As for kamikaze, that's one good thing about a Landy, very few people mess with you. And you pull truck drivers ALL THE TIME!

Sounds pretty major!! At least parts tend to be plentiful (if not cheap!). I take it it's chassis corrosion as that tends to be a big killer. But it worries me that anyone can cock up electrics on a Defender - compared to some of the stuff out there today it's positively neolithic!

The other half and his mate once had a 90 V8 between them, and the V8 was factory fitted, and that was a lovely machine. Was pretty quick as well, even in an untuned form! We often had people pulling out on us at roundabouts as they weren't expecting us to go that quickly.....

Before that they had an ex-MOD Series 3 LWB - now people definitely got out of the way when that was rumbling down the road!!! I did blag a 90 for the weekend once (Td5) and it was tremendous fun, especially as the Max Power boys didn't know what to make of me in it.
