Bob Monkhouse would be able to cut the mustard on the show, but not for long. Angus Deayton is pretty well irreplaceable.
I thought Nina Wadia from goodness gracious me might do well as a guest host as would Stephen Fry - you definetly need a comic, Although someone suggested John Sergeant, which would be good.
Unfortunately, without Angus Deayton the show is dead. The BBC have had their money's worth anyway.

This is a show that should go on - in some format or other. I'm not saying it should be the opposition (in view of the lack elsewhere), but a little political satire goes a long way to comforting the public that the shenanigans of the so called "great and good" are being watched, noted, and brought to the public's attention.
We need a laugh as well as knowing that someone out there sees them for what they really are and is prepared to publicise it!

I was reading the Evening Standard and Hat-Trick (the company that produce HIGNFY)'s contract with the BBC runs out in two years. Now Hat-Trick have got no complaints with Angus Deayton, and if HIGNFY left the BBC they would almost certainly reinstall him.

HIGNFY is the only show of its kind on TV, and the only one to regularly get >6m viewers. If the BBC lost it there would be a void, but unless Angus D is brought back, Hat-Trick aren't gonna want to stay - their reputation is going down with each half-rate presenter given a chance. Channel 4 have said that they couldn't care less about Deayton's private life, and they would certainly allow Hat-Trick to bring him back. Moving to C4 or even C5 is looking like a more and more lucrative option for Hat-Trick, so if BBC don't get Angus D back, they will lost Paul Merton and Ian Hislop too.

And incidentally, some of the funniest episodes of HIGNFY were with Ian and Paul grilling Angus. They obviously didn't expect him to get fired, nor did they want it. They knew full well that the show needed him to keep its reputation, and paul seemed frankly bored last epsiode.

Angus Deayton must be brought back to keep the show on the BBC

And makes it twice as true. It's a nice thought, anyway.

Difficult to reinstall a bloke in a team where the other members have put "the bloke" out to dry!
Apparently Hislop & Merton were gunning for Deayton, so, how on earth can the team be resurrected?

well it depends what you read - this is the article i read it from, and it gives the view that they (ian and paul) obviously found the whole thing hilarious, but did not wish the consequences that followed.

its a bit out of date now, but its still relevant.

sure, there'll be a load of joke brought back to surface, but it will die out eventually. it would be for the best for the show.
