I am inclined to the idea of bringing back Angus after a suitable period in Purdah. I would certainly not watch the programme if Anne Robinson got the job.
In the mean time here are a few recommendations for guest chairperson:
Eddie Mair (Broadcasting House)
Simon Hoggart (The News Quiz)
Humphrey Littleton (ISIHAC)
and (a bit of a dark horse). . . .
Terry Wogan!

Gareth Gates.... now there's a thought!?! The BBC would have to set aside a couple of hours each week for the show but at least the presenter couldn't blame Ian and Paul for not being able to get a word in edgeways.

Very cruel on Gareth Gates.
The show clearly needs someone with maturity and experience - although obviously not of the sort of experience Deayton embraced at every opportunity.
No one seems to have commented on Liza Tarbuck yet? I thought she was a good host/chair but it stopped at that. Did someone omit to tell her that humour was also required in the chair?

every time i write a reply it puts it in the wrog place and by the way he's hardly got a stammer any more

DJR Posted Jan 6, 2003
did it only occur to people in my school that the whole stammer thing was a load of crap made up as a publicity stunt... it had apparently been like that all his life, then in 6 months its practically gone. he's a stupid phoney.
but back to HIGNFY, Liza Turbuck was poor. She was overawed and over powered by Ian and Paul. The new permanent presenter is meant to be in place by the next series, and it has to be someone with a strong personality. Anne Robinson, Jeremy Clarkson, even Charles Kennedy. they can face ian and paul, but Liza T couldn't.

you have got to be joking he would't do that in a million years why on earth would he want to spend his entire life not being able to talk properly. nd then go on acourse to get it sorted.

conveniently timed with the way in progressively got better as the original Pop Idol or Pop Stars or whatever crap it was called continued.
of course he's not going to say it suddenly got better, he's gonna make up some hunk-of-junk that people buy. Notice how it wasn't progressive - it just suddenly was noticable.
but back to HIGNFY...

Yeah, let's not waste our time with Gareth Gates. Although, I have to say, it goes in his favour that he can actually play the piano. Pity he hid it under a bush for months on end.
