It looks like our guesses are right. I tested it out with a simple example:
In Netscape, this aligns left, but if you remove the align="" then it aligns center.
In IE, it aligns center either way.

First picture is centred, but no text surrounding it, second picture left aligned, text flows round.

I think Justin missed the fact that there are three pictures. In Netscape, the first is centered, the second is falling off the screen way over in the right, and the third is on the left. In all three cases, there is proper margin, but the embed right one gets messed up.

Yeah - the right aligned picture doesn't display at all - it just leaves a geap where it should be.
