irritating bug :- less thans / greater thans in subject lines

if you use "<"'s or ">"'s in subject lines (on user pages), you make it then impossible to
change the subject of that page when editing!
I would be grateful if you could fix this

I'm wondering if less than (< and greater than (> signs cause havoc anywhere or just in the subject lines. The HTML way to write one is ampersandlt; and ampersandgt;

I was trying to do the fish symbol () in a subject, and instead it just went bezerk!
(the page in question is my home page, note the title says "Welcome to the mousehole > < >"
when I edit it I get "welcome to the name=" on the edit box, and no matter what I change this
text to, the subject refuses to change
