I for one would fancy the ability to email the researchers and the editors. What's so hard in making this a reality?

Nothing, except that some people wouldn't want you to. What's the problem with leaving a message on a person's user page?

In your wisdom thou has, sir Lynn, of course pointed out a way of going about it, that is the easiest way. In addition, leaving lot's of messages on the forums might even put them on the busiest forms list, thus making the same forum famous and glorious. I rest my case.
