I have my security settings set to warn me when a cookie is being stored(I.E.)- i either click yes or no, depending on the site.
H2G2 has never prompted this warning box before, now all of a sudden i get a request to store a cookie every time i go in/out of a conversation Why has this cookie been added- it is really annoying, and i've had to change my settngs to accept cookies just to speed up my use of the site.. so now i have to let all cookies in
I could go back to using netscape,as it allows site specific cookie storage, but i'de rather not...

Doesn't IE allow you to say 'always accept cookies from this site'?
We haven't changed anything that I'm aware of in the last day, so I'm not sure why we'd suddenly be sending cookies. I'll do a bit of checking to see if there's another source, possibly.

I use IE and have a high cookie setting but can allow cookies from what I deem a safe site.
open a browser then - Tools - internet options - privacy - edit and then enter the bbc addy.

I never 'log out' of h2g2 as I am a single user on my home pc - perhaps that is why I don't know anything about it.

It's a genuine survey, and it could explain cookie problems. There's a horribly misspelled question in there:
"When did you first become a h2g2 users?"

Oh thank Bob,
I don't log out either, but i still got the pop-up. Maybe the cookies were there temporarily to check if a user had completed the survey or not?

I've just re-enabled the "prompt me when cookies are being set" part in my browser, and i'm not getting the H2G2 ones anymore, so maybe that's what it was.

A happy ending!
I am like you - can't abide cookies. Feels the same as someone posting junkmail through my letterbox.
