Font sizes on FP

Since the last DNA 'upgrade' the fonts on the FP appear to have gone haywire. On the left side column the font size is extra large, the right hand column the font is so small a magnifying glass is needed to see it. I'm in the Brunel skin. The same fault shows in my BTYahoo Browser, IE7, and MSN Browser. I can't change the text without affecting the whole page. Just wondered if you were aware or if anyone else has the same problem.

it's odd. I'm using IE7 as well. At the smallest text size, the text in the left margin is the same size as the text in the main page, while the text in the right margin is too small.
If I increase the text size (View Text Size Larger), the text on the left grows enormously, the text in the middle grows a little and the text on the right stays the same, too small.

It will be down to how they've done the coding of the style for each part then. Some sizing specifications (eg pixels vs numbered font size etc) are a lot more compatible with various browsers (and people's personal choices of sizing) than others are. It takes a lot of trial and error work to establish the best settings.

I noticed it right away, but when I asked lil, she said she hadn't noticed anything, so I thought it was just me.

Hi gnomon, my default text setting is larger text, doesn't change whats showing on front page though. Even in PS and message areas the font in left column is rather large, as in size 6 if it were ML code?.

And what happens when you make the text smaller?

The Left Menu uses a class called lhnav, but I've no idea whether we can see what is in that or not. Are classes held in a CSS file?

If I choose smaller text or smallest then all the text goes tiny but same size across the page and columns, if I go to normal or larger then I get the original issue as in post 1.

My text settings are to 'medium', and it used to be fine until the last upgrade. It's only the FP that is affected, though, so I guess I can live with that.

All seems and stays fine with locked font properties or font properties according to WEB page. "

All the CSS for the changes to the front page (and elsewhere) are in this file:
http://www.h2g2.com/h2g2/skins/brunel/brunel.css
I'd welcome any suggestions as to what we might be doing wrong (and under which circumstances and browsers it might be wrong).
What we've done is try to simplify some of the page furniture in brunel to use more CSS and fewer font tags. Sometimes this can lead to differences in the way the browsers display the page. If it's very wrong, we can change the stylesheet to make it better.

Thanks, Jim.
I've just realised I'm using IE6, not IE7.
Unfortunately, I don't know much about CSS files.

I'm using IE 6, too. I think it wasn't any better in Firefox, though. I haven't tried the other skins, I'm in brunel.

Had a look at the code link posted by Jim. Shows font sizes first 10px, then after it just says smaller and medium, then 10px again, wonder if thats what the problem is?
color:#000000;
/*font-family:Trebuchet MS, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;*/
/*font-size:smaller;*/
}
.poshead
{
color:#CC3300;
font-family:Trebuchet MS, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;
font-size:medium;
}
.postable {background:#FFFFFF;}
.psnav
{
font-family:verdana, helvetica, sans-serif;
font-size:10px;

On a possibly related note (???) I spent ages yesterday and today squinting at my new guide entry (A28808427) in Brunel, using Firefox 2.0.x.x, thinking I was going crazy trying to work out if I had made some weird error with the sub headers and headers.
There just doesn't seem to be a difference in the appearance of the fonts, no matter what font size I use with the browser, the sub header and the header appear (to me at least - like I said, I ended up squinting a lot) to be exactly the same.
In contrast, a much older entry (A653203) has a noticeable difference between eg. The Aftermath and Hair loss.
