Smileys not working (The autolink from a smiley to the smileys page)
TRiG (Ireland) A dog, so bade in office Started conversation May 21, 2006
Clicking on brings me to <./>Smiley#smiley</.>, as it always used to (for as long as I remember, anyway).
But, since the new smileys came out, the <./>Smiley</.> page contains only a list of new smileys. The actual smiley is on the Smileys: Emotions page at <./>A588260#smiley</.>. So the link is broken.
So for all other smileys, or at least as many as I've tried.

Yes, that's the way that it's been for at least the last couple of years. I believe the thinking was that a single page for all of the smilies was unwieldy, and hence they were split over a number of themed pages.

Then why bother with the link to an anchor which doesn't exist? Each of the <./>smiley</.> pages links to each of the others, so 'twould it not be best to link to the smiley itself (whatever page it's on) and allow people to navigate to other smiley pages from there? (Smiley categories don't overlap, do they? So each smiley appears on only one page, yes?)
Or, if you prefer to simply link to the <./>smiley</.> page itself, you should drop the #smileyname bit of the link, since it does nothing. No?

I agree, it's not an ideal situation. The anchor doesn't work as intended, but by the same token it doesn't break anything. So in these times of constrained resources at the Towers, is it really worth spending the time to fix it. I'm not convinced it would be.

Thanks all.
The reasoning behind it is that 'If you want to see what this symbol is, then there are a wide range of smileys here.'
But GreyDesk is quite right - it's a really, fiddly job; it's not really 'broken', and to change it would be rather time-consuming.
