Help for the feeble minded

I seem to have hit a brick wall!
I've just upgraded to Netscape 7 and need to do the log in stuff again, but it won't recognise what I thought was my password. So I tried the "I've forgotten my password" route, but it didn't recognise my e-mail/researcher number (tried this with and without the U).
So I went back to Netscape 4 and tried to change my password from there and it still won't recognise even the combination that it automatically puts in from Preferences!
Please can someone help - I don't want to have to keep N4 installed just for h2g2!!

Check the preferences and make sure that both temporary and permanent cookies are allowed.

It's set to accept all cookies - doesn;t give me a choice of temp or perm. And I've been able to log in and out before!
I thought at least it ought to recognise what was already in my h2g2 preferences...

Try logging into the bbc first. I'm trying to find the link for you but I'll have to logout first.

It's ok I have the link - do you mean from N4 or N7 or whichever?

I logged out and couldn't get back in to tell you that there is a general problem with the login servers. See the message on the front page.

Eventually I remembered that my copy of Opera might have a 'remember me cookie' so I was saved!! Phew.

Yes, I must apologise - our registration server is sulking, and won't be back until at least 5pm today (BST). So you won't be able to log back in until then.

I'm *really* sorry, and I'm sure those responsible for maintaining our registration database are even sorrier.

Thanks - all working now! I haven't been in PC range for the last couple of days, so I'm glad it's all sorted.
So someone unplugged the server to do the hoovering, eh?!

It was much, much worse than that. Not as bad as it appeared to be at one point, but still extremely bad. Red faces all round, I suspect.
