American English

A very good assessment of the situation of spelling between 2 english speaking countries. More intresting in the fact that American English is becoming more standard (Its in all the books I read) but is unlikly to be accepted offically.
The auhor also avoids american bashing which would be easy to do on this subject.

This all goes back to a story I read...
A couple were asked to speak to the princple of an american school about there son, the head master said that the child has the worse spelling he had ever seen. The parents who had tutored the child on spelling for years were shocked and asked to see some examples. The confusion was quickly cleared up when the parents pointed out that he was using "correct" english as the parents had recently moved from england.

One point I would like to add is which dictonary do other countries (like Australia) use?
