I went to see the film on Monday.

I thought it was alright, to be honest. I've heard a lot of slating about it, but it seemed to work in my book.

It's a far more pyschological piece then most of the comic book adaptions about, but it had to be really. After all, the whole point of the Hulk is that he is the expression of what Banner dare not express in his everyday life. He is very emotionally repressed, and the Hulk is the explosion of rage that breaks the repression. So, in order to make the Hulk credible, Ang Lee had to show a deeply repressed Banner first. So, equally, Eric Bana's performance had to be a very muted affair.

Nick Nolte, on the other day, strides all over the film. He totally stole it from under Bana's nose. As Bruce Banner's father, he conveys all the subtlities and, ultimately, madness that Bruce can't allow himself to.

Any other thoughts, anyone?

Just Bob aka Robert Thompson, plugging my film blog cinemainferno-blog.blogspot.co.uk

I thought it was a good film. I was somewhat disturbed by some kids down the row who were making a nuisance of themselves the whole way through, but I did my best to ignore them.
I saw a documentary on the director just a couple of days before and, armed with that knowledge, the fingerprint of Ang Lee was definitely on the whole film. It was definitely more thoughtful than many Marvel adaptions (adaptations?), which suited me fine. The friend with whom I saw it didn't like the trendy split-screen stuff, and I have to admit that it's over-used at the moment.
