Yes, there is a legend that it fell out of the sky to the hand of the Danish king in the 13th century as a sign of divine approval, and he then won some battle in Estonia. (Wouldn't quote that explanation though, as may have got mixed up!)

Just going back a bit, the Saltire of Scotland (or St. Andrew's Cross as its also known) is the oldest flag in the world. It appeared in the sky to a mixed force of Picts and Scots under Angus Mac Fergus and Eochaidh in 832ad prior to what became known as the battle of Athelstaneford against Athelstane of Northumbria.
Following the victory, and the subsequent unification of Scotland by Mac Fergus, the white cross on the azure ground was adopted as the flag of Scotland, and Andrew as our Patron Saint.
So there.
