Posit: humans are not improvable

Humbug again. What's the purpose for sending men to the moon, apart from showing up our cold war enemies? I don't see our decision to cut back space "exploration" as stagnation. After spending millions or billions of dollars on it, you have to ask what good is it doing for us? If we had spent that money on medical research, would we have been better off?
Maybe we could have put humans on Mars, but for what purpose? Leaving the solar system will be a big step, but until then, there's no good reason to send humans to the other planets that are now within reach, except to settle bets between scientists about how much water is on Mars or whether microbes live under ice somewhere. It's fun to think about, but I don't think it's practical to attempt those things yet.

ah mental exercising.
firstly. Isn't it enough thet we try to improve?
1893 - womens sufferage(vote) on a national scale. No real demoracy before that.
Early to mid 20th century. Workers rights become realistic for the first time.
Mid 20th to now. Space flight sputnic onward gives many something common to strive to and the spin-offs are almost endless if you think about it.
I think Subcom was onto something. We try and we can achive things outside of war. The unprecedented scale of protest combined with mass communication show that there are so many (maybe more now) that don't consider war a vilid action.
