Gnomon - time to move on Posted Jan 16, 2003
This sounds interesting, but you'll have to tidy it up slightly. Edited Guide Entries are not supposed to have first person references (I, me, my, mine) in them.
You might need to expand on your explanation - not everybody reading will know what a trick is or what Aces high means.
Okay!

Now I've tidied it up I can't wait to hear from people who try it out!

Good entry!
The only minor correction I have is to change "occaisionally" to "occasionally"!

How long before this becomes and Edited Guide Entry? Is this like how a bill becomes a law?

Rho Posted Feb 3, 2003
It depends on when/if the entry is recommended by one of the Scouts, one of h2g2's volunteer groups.
After an entry's recommended, the entry is first checked by one of the Editorial team. Assuming it's accepted by the Editors, the entry will then be edited by one of the volunteer Subeditors. Finally, the entry is checked by the Editors again before being made part of the edited guide.
EditedGuide-Process describes this in more detail.

What would catch a Scout's attention, if you don't mind my blithering naiveity?

Scouts look for suitable entries for Peer Review and positive comments from other people in the PR thread. If a suitable suggestion is made, they would also look for the author changing the entry to fit with that suggestion!
I'm afraid I'm not a Scout, though, so it's not my attention you need to catch

It would be a good idea to change the rule numbering system to an ordered list (& tags).

Disregard that suggestion about the ordered list. You can only do that if you convert the whole entry into GuideML, which is really a bit much to ask someone to do unless they're familiar with it. If and when the entry is picked by a Scout, a sub-editor will look after the job of converting it to GuideML and changing your rule numbers into an ordered list.

I've had a good look through this. I see that you added explanations of trick, aces-high and so on as I suggested. Thanks.
I don't think changing "I" to "This Researcher" really works. It's ok to put in an occasional reference to "this researcher" in a long entry, but you've got three of them here!
I think you should rephrase them:
"Cover-cover is a card game taught to this Researcher by an Austrian friend and colleague of his father" could become "Cover-cover is a card game played in Austria".
"...this Researcher has seen people reduced to fits of the giggles when they think..." could be phrased as "...people have been reduced to fits of giggles when they think..."
"This Researcher has insufficient information to comment on whether or not this game is improved by the consumption of intoxicants." can become "Further research is required to determine whether or not this game is improved by the consumption of intoxicants."
