I would have to argue that the chicken came first. This is based on the same idea of Darwinism that you have mentioned. Simply put, the egg that the first chicken came from was actually the egg of the pre-chicken super entity. The first chicken egg was laid by the freakish mutation of the product of the pre-chicken egg. This egg that produced the mutant now know as a chicken, of course, was the product of the time traveling pre-chicken super entity and the backwoods hillbilly sub-chicken of the, now defunct, future of the pre-chicken super entity, not the egg of an actual chicken.
