The Liverpool Pyjama phemomenon

1 Conversation

First becoming apparent in the mid 1990's, the pyjama phenomenon consists of women going to the shops, to pick children up from school, going to nightclubs , in fact, going about everyday life, whilst wearing pyjamas. So called The Liverpool pyjama phenomenon as this is the area of the UK where it is most prevalent. There have been unconfirmed sightings as far afield as Wigan and and Blackburn, but this may be hearsay.
There are two basic pyjama ensembles. The white teddy-bear emprinted fleecy type of pyjama are best teamed with stilletos, socks and a cardigan, and are derigour for events such as attending parent's evenings or going to the supermarket. The plain silky type are for best only: a meeting with a headteacher to discuss your child's latest misdemeanour or going to the bingo would be appropriate.
Contrary to popular belief, the pyjamas mentioned are NOT worn to sleep in but are daywear to be changed into when arising from bed. Sadly, this phenomenon as yet shows no sign of abating and can currently be seen in areas of the city such as Old Swan, Dovecot, Norris Green and Speke.
Rumour has it that the male of the species is attempting to regain the sartorial high ground by sporting a shorts and slippers combo in Liverpool betting shops.
