Hello Nick
This gets better all the time, which provokes a thought. How about putting a link to this, absolutely key, index page right at the top, as well as the bottom, of the savethealbatross.org page?

Good idea Richard - only thing is that John wants to re-write the Save the Albatross opening page so it grabs your attention a bit better.
I'll need to build the link into that somewhere.
I added a page on David Walters and also the Guidelines for the Birdlife Volunteers so take a look when you have a moment. Also sent more pics to Ashley for blobbing...
Hope everything is going well in LA.
Nick

I am so thrilled, John, to see you so revealed! We must be getting old after all. Will keep track as the voyage begins.... Haven't some of your best guys been intractably sea sick????? What makes them go on? And,the extra link would be nice.

Hi Richard,
Well I've been through the whole site and given it a major spring clean and rationalisation. I've established a common look with a consistent header and general structure. I've improved the old Index page and re-named it the Contents page. At the bottom of evey page I've put in a link back to the Contents. For pages that are really subpages of another, I've also added a link back to the parent.
At this stage I haven't put additional links in at the top of a page because I feel my header plus all the H2G2 stuff is already reducing the visible part of the main content enough and I don't want to lose yet more space to navigation. I have made sure a link to the Contents page is in the navigation in the right hand panel on evey page (and a link to the Intro page), so whereever someone comes in, they can find a link to those two key pages.
I asked a couple of my colleagues who work with me in the web design business to run their eye over it, and they picked up a few things I'd missed but have now fixed. We now need to set up the volunteer action discussion page and a few others and then we should be well set online discussion.
I think it's going to be a really great environment for the voyage to be communicating in.
Nick

Hello Nick
I have just spent a thoroughly enjoyable and very informative hour going through the site, clicking most of the links on a page before clicking Contents at the bottom.
I think the whole thing is excellent. A major step forward from what I managed to get h2g2 to do for my Overland pages and a terrific foundation for the voyage.
in the meantime the two tiny additions/changes I’d suggest at this stage are:
1) a line a the bottom of the contents page explaining to people that aren’t used to h2g2 or community sites that if they have any questions then just click the Start a new conversation
2) to replace the pic of the two albatross on the Voyage Plan page with a very basic map of the journey. I know you’ll be doing a clickable map once you get started but just an indication map showing the size of the journey would be good. Perhaps something like the one I used for Overland A456617
But my goodness you’ve done fantastically well. I’m filled with admiration and really excited.
Best as always Richard

Hi Richard,
Thanks for all the encouragement and tips.
I've sent a small world map .gif file to Sam and Ashley, its not as elegant as the one you have for your Overland Challenge, but it gives the idea nevertheless.
I've also added the note re discussing entries at the bottom of the Contents page.
Two good ideas thanks.
Nick

Terrific. The note at the bottom is just right and I am sure the map will be too. Ashley, Sam or I (I will soon have the 'blob' tools) will get it up on Tuesday (Not Monday as its Holiday time in the UK). And once you get started, your tracking maps will put my elegant one right in its place.
Best Richard
