Better than Nirvana?
I think so.
Discuss.

Great Entry Nylarthotep,
Definetly better IMO. I was kinda losing hope that rock would find a way to carry on big-style. To me FF not only saved rock's life, but they also revitalised rock music.
Just one minor thing: The "Foo Fighters" episode is not over yet. Maybe you could add a last paragraph rounding this out, maybe something about concrete future plans of the band. The title should also be in the lines of: Foo Fighters, the first years (1996-2002).
Apart from that: Great band, great Entry.

Great article for one!
However, *vitriolic* is not the best word to use to describe Kurt Cobains suicide not. "Despondant" would be better.
However, saying that Foo Fighters *SAVED* rock music is a joke. Who have they inspired? No one. I personally find them dull. You want a good hardworking vibrant rock band?? The Smashing Pumpkins were everything a band should be. Nirvana were better than Foo Fighters, and although Dave Grohl is hilarious, I don't think he's that exciting as a song writer. He stirs nothing in me!!!!
But personal views aside, it's a good article...well done!!

My argument is that the Foo Fighters saved rock music from obscurity and present a palatable form of music that while having pop-sensibilities is still able to shove rock into the mainstream and retain its integrity. Smashing Pumpkins I like, but I can't help but feel that Billy Corgan lost it a bit towards the end.
Alternativly you could believe that Limp Wrizted, Staind and Puddle of Mudd saved rock and keep it alive in the hearts of the masses (and if that's true you can have the shotgun after I use it to blow the back of my head off).

I think Korn, Machine Head and perhaps even Coal Chamber brought new aspects to metal...but anything after *shudder* Pass the shotgun please...
Billy Corgan has always been accused of losing it...right from Gish. But he 's always been one step ahead of the times, and when you look back, he's not made one faulty album. There's a degree of magic in what he makes.
Foo Fighters? I just find them boring. I can't find any speciality in them. It's just a band, with a bunch of songs.
But it's still a good article. Personal taste is personal taste. But nu-metal should be squashed. It will go away one day...

The problem with Nu-Metal is that there are decent bands out on the periphery who get mashed in with the likes of Spineshank, Linkin Perk and Durst's monkeys.
Taproot, Glassjaw and the like are a breed apart.
I like early Pumpkins, I like Alice in Chains, I like Stone Temple Pilots...who killed all the good bands and bred pop-punk adolescents by the dozen?...it's because of these people that we have Busted...

Firstly I know nothing whatsoever about rock music, but the entry still managed to hold my attention, as far as I can see it's well written. Have you thought of using Guide ML? because a few 's and 's wouldn't go amis! but that's all I can think of to be honest.

I try to...but it all goes pear-shaped.

Ok what's happened when you do it? you have to surround the entire entry with at the beginning and at the end. and around the paragraphs and around subheaders exactly..the you have to switch the format of the entry by clicking on Guide Ml in the edit entry screen.. and change format.. then what does it say?

F**king B***ed.
It's all so cheap and tacky these days. And there ARE good bands out there. Taproot is Ok, and so is Glassjaw (shame about the singer right now though)...Mad Capsule Markets are amazing too. But thanks to Limp S**tzkit and Linkin F*rt and all that *We aren't manufactured! Honest!* music......I'm ashamed to wear my band t-shirts these days.

With children walking around in the same stuff I tend to go for neutral earth tones and the good old black...I refuse to dress like an eight year old.

Hiya,
Great entry - you tell a concise and interesting story.
I'm no Foo Fighters fan in particular, and I certainly don't think they "saved rock music". But since you've restrained yourself from claiming this in the entry itself, there's no problem!!
The only bit I skim-read was the videos paragraphs(!). But its a minor gripe; I think this is a very nice run-down of the band's history and mercifully unemotional - which is unusual on h2g2, where most people think that if you don't like their favourite music you must be retarded or sub-human.

Listen to the music. It's not just 4/4 boom-boom-crash. Musically the Foo Fighters are excellent. Some people think it's boring, OK. I don't. Musically, it's very stimulating - hence my observation that they saved rock (not metal).

Hell yeah=yes I agree emphatically with the opinion of researcher named "HELL"...using a common phrase of agreement that also makes reference to the person that I'm agreeing with.

Hell - I didn't use a metal example. I used The Smashing Pumpkins...who in my mind were/are an infinitely superior rock band. It's personal taste, and not really what this thread should be about.

Is it worth mentioning that the video for "Everlong" was directed by godlike visionary genius Michel Gondry, creator of most of Bjork's best and the unparalleled visual palindrome that is the video to Cibo Matto's "Sugar Water"?
