I think Stoke station is the nearest, if I remember correctly...
There are usually a few people with cars who are willing to meet people at the station - although I think one or two managed to get from the station to the campsite by last year.

The Good Dr. is quite right, Stoke is the main station, and there are usually a few people willing to do a station run during the day/eary evening to pick other researchers up.
It's quite a good idea to talk to other people you expect to be coming closer to the time, & try to co-ordinate your time of arrival to coincide with someone else's, to make lift's easier to sort out. Hopefully I'll have some wheels myself by then, and so will be able to help out! (nag me someone!)
Alternatively you can find details of bus travel on last years thread here; F81934?thread=206285&skip=0&show=20 I expect there will be a similar service running this year, I'll look in to it further for up to date timetables later this year & put them up when I get them
This was my 1st meet in September 2001, I went on my own. I made some very good friends at the meet, I'm sure you'll feel the same going to AT with h2 was one of the very best things I did, ever!

If last year was anything to go by (and I think it is!) then we'll be *very* merry! Especially as the local pub doesn't seem to be too bothered about actually closing...

We only went down to the pub for a meal on the Friday evening - I think there were at least a couple of people who weren't drinking. It's just somewhere warm, dry, and comfortable for us all to have a bloomin' good time! Meeting old friends, making new ones, and having a laugh at the same time.

Ummm... We had food at the pub Friday evening. Breakfasts were done at the campsite - bacon butties Saturday and Sunday during the day we found places to eat in Alton Towers, and we did a BBQ at the campsite Saturday evening, despite it being rather windy! Trust me, you won't starve...

So we all fancy a BBQ on the sat night again this time? & the pub on Friday? Wonder if the Landlord will remember us again, as he seemed to last year... I wonder why!

Sounds good to me! We should try and be more organised with the BBQ this time though - last time the plan *seemed* to be for one car load of people to leave the Towers early to set up, stopping off for *all* the food on the way. It didn't quite turn out that way though... The blow-lamp certainly turned out to be useful!!!
Hmmm... I wonder if he'll remember the exloding blackcurrant!

*tries to remember where she was while the shopping was going on*
Oh yeah I was on Nemesis! Not much help there then.
Got any suggestions about how to make it run more smoothly?
Perhaps get a better idea of who's willing to chip in for communal food & get a donation off them before the shopping takes place? Storage is always a problem as if we buy in advance say on Friday the food will be out of storage for over 24 hrs with no refrigeration... that's why we left it till the last minute.
And hey! at least we had candles this year LOL! - every time we do this we get better at it, expect things to go perfectly after 2010

I think getting money off people *before* doing the shopping sounds like it would work. Even if only because it makes them less likely to go to the shop themselves...
Yeah, I can understand why you can't do the shoping earlier. It's (simply!) a matter of knowing who wants what for the BBQ, and then *only* the 'designated shoppers' () going shopping! The problems started when no-one knew who they were buying food for, and almost everyone ended up going to the shop.
Make a plan, and stick to it!
