Colosseum Tour with FWR

The Colosseum in Rome.

The corridors beneath the colosseum had a series of lifts (elevators) to move the wild animals and heavy props up and down.

A whole team of slaves did nothing but walk round in circles all day, moving the mechanism, as they were cheaper than using donkeys.

There was a special lift and corridor that the Emperor could use if he didn't want to be seen or was a little unpopular with the crowds. (All marble as he could only walk on the good stuff!)

Fascinating little snippets of history.
