I wrote this in response to yesterdays (21/11/02) entry about Butlins, and felt that the first piece, combined with this would work well together.

Unfortunately not. Peer review is intended for entries which are being written for submission to the edited section of h2g2 and which will end up on the front page, like the entry which inspired you. You can find details of the guidelines here Writing-Guidelines. This page will help you out too Writing-Beginners. Your entry can't be considered for the Edited Guide because it falls foul of the 'Write only in third person' rule. As a personal story it's hard to imagine how this could be re-written to accomodate that rule

Don't despair though - this is exactly the kind of thing which <./>ThePost</.> love to publish, and with a writing style as good as yours, I'd be very surprised if they didn't jump at this one.

And don't feel shy about writing more pieces which fit in with the guidelines - we'd love to see you here again

Thanks for the feedback. Following instructions have never been my strong point as my collection of Airfix models show. Each ended up like a paperweight whose substrate was glue as opposed to glass, with something quite, but not entireley disimilar to an aeroplane in the middle.

They did have a unique, if somewhat opaque charm though.

Third person only from now on.

lovely piece, , and as has been said, not EG, but hey, that's not the be-all; don't change a comma!

and feel free to write all the first person stuff you like, and drop into the Alternative writing workshop, where anything goes, and this would be more than welcome. It's quieter than peer review generally, but the more stuff like this there is, the more people will want to read and comment on the entries that go in there.

and i agree about The Post, but if you want an easy way in, i'd love to run this in the weekly CAC column there some time soon.

As I am as talented with technology as I am with instructions, I may have some diificulty in working out how to submit the piece. If this helps you understand my limitations with things digital, my video recorder has been blinking 12.00, 12.00, 12.00 constantly since 1982.

I have since edited the piece, so I have to redo the upload thingy. I will see if I can find where to post it, but if on your journey through cybespace you come accross some incongruous analogue chalk marks with an arrow and the initials GS, you will know what has happened.

I wanted to run your piece this week in <./>ThePost</.> but you didn't include your h2g2 name, only your real one, and we are reluctant to publish anything without this information. Your piece arrived safely but I couldn't decipher your email address so was stymied.

If you are still happy for us to use this it will appear next week. I have taken onboard a few of the comments here and from ~jwf~ and may add a few footnotes to explain the 'very British' sections - or put in a link to the edited entry on Butlins
