To stand out as weird as a political candidate takes some effort. There's so many other contenders. There might be other terms that could be used for this pair, but I don't want to get sued.

Democrats are fond of pointing out that the reason Mr Vance is Mr Trump's running mate is that an angry crowd threatened to lynch his predecessor.

So they were gleeful when yesterday, former vice president Pence tweeted, 'At least I know how to order doughnuts.'

This was in reference to a wannabe-video op in a doughnut shop which Mr Vance handled - or failed to handle - in his own inimitable way. The attempt was probably inspired by the viral video showing the team of Harris/Walz/Emhoff tossing bags of Doritos at each other in a 7/11.

It was screamingly obvious that:

1. JD Vance does not know how to make small talk.
2. JD Vance is really bad at pretending to care about random people that he meets.
3. JD Vance is lacking in basic human curiosity.
4. JD Vance has never in his life bought an assortment of doughnuts for a group of coworkers.

I see a recuring theme of not caring for actual people on the Republican ticket.

Or maybe he just doesn't like dougnuts / thinks he gets ripped off because of the hole in the middle.

That is a good point. There is a lack of concern about grounding one's policies in real people and their needs. Which, I think, should be the point of all policy.
