I have wo viable hypotheses related to original mounting of the drain:

1-Acetoxy sealant does not adhere to the drain material, making it leak
2-The sealant attacks the drain material and makes it leak later on or generates noxious gases

After some reading, It seems it can be both. Acetic acid forms during curing (which causes the smell of vinegar).

Aha, yes - so the hypothesis that the drain is likely to leak later on if acetoxy sealant is used, because the acid attacks the material, sounds like the explanation - thank you smiley - ok
