Reminds me of the childrens picture book Courtney by John Burningham. The story is something like: Courtney the dog turned up at a house, and the dad didn’t want to take the dog in, but the children insisted. Courtney played with the children, fetched the dad’s slippers, danced with the mum, did the cooking and cleaning, but was taken for granted.
