That has a fairly sensible origin of the Chilean government at the start of the 20th Century thinking, 'we want an efficient army. Germany has an efficient army - let's get some German generals over to teach us how to train our army and we'll copy absolutely everything that they do - from their boots to their pointy hats'.

Iraq's Darth Vader helmets, on the other hand, were worn by their guard just because Saddam Hussein's son's loved 'Star Wars' and thought Darth Vader looked cool.
